SPORTS MASSAGE ADDS TO PERFORMANCE

If you play team sports, workout every day, or exercise only on weekends; you will find benefits from massage therapy. Sports massage has evolved into an important component of athletic training and recovery programs. Serious athletes typically utilize sports massage therapy to recover from soreness or injuries and/or to maintain fitness levels to flexibility, strength and to add to their performance.

Possible times to utilize sports massage therapy:

• Pre-event massage - at the sporting event to warm up the body, increase blood flow to targeted muscles, and loosen joints.

• Post-event massage- at the event site after competition to assist in recovery reducing muscle soreness and cramping while restoring range of motion.

• Maintenance massage--when not in competition to maintain muscular health focusing on: strength, flexibility, coordination, biomechanics, posture, physical stress patterns; treating muscle soreness or spasm, scar tissue and existing injuries.

• Rehabilitative massage--performed in conjunction with proper medical care. It can significantly speed healing and reduce discomfort. Ask your doctor about massage therapy when recovering from a sports injury or surgery.

Sports massage typically utilizes modalities such as Swedish Massage Therapy strokes and may include Deep Tissue Massage, Myofacial Release, and Hydrotherapy along with facilitated stretching techniques. The type of sport you participate in will determine the muscle groups involved in the therapy. An experienced sports massage therapist will customize the maintenance massage program suited to your individual needs based on activity level, prior injuries, biomechanical, flexibility, etc.

Maintenance massage is extremely valuable for anyone just beginning an exercise program, after infrequent exercise, over doing it, or competitive sporting events. Sports maintenance massage hastens recovery of muscle soreness, muscle spasm, tendonitis, sciatica pain, and supports healthy muscle condition and joint flexibility. We can assist you in developing a sports massage maintenance program designed to your specific needs during your active periods or off-season to maintain your fitness level.
